Case Information

We were engaged to transform project controls for a major government contract, integrating over 20 schedules and reporting on 100,000 tasks to enable quick, decisive action. 

CHALLENGE

The organization struggled to meet client requirements for an integrated master schedule (IMS) that combined and reported on the progress of over 20 sub-schedules. Program leadership was unable to make quick, decisive actions as reports were manually created, often taking weeks to develop and distribute. Monthly IMS creation required significant effort from the Project Controls team, consuming full-time capacity and leading to inefficiencies. The data-intensive framework needed to ensure compliance with government task orders and IDIQ policies, while also being scalable to handle future requests and work orders. 

SOLUTION

RW King Consulting implemented a three-phase road-map, designing a solution that built on existing technical capabilities. We  developed a custom approach to build the IMS, collaborated with client Cloud Engineers to provision an instance of Project Online, configured the tool, and developed automation to create the IMS from 25 independently managed project schedules. 

Power BI dashboard and reports were designed and deployed for all team members and program leadership. Dashboards provided high-level overview or progress per IDIQ or agency.  This included migrating 25 disparate schedules from desktop to the cloud and training on weekly update rhythms and reporting tools.

Training was conducted for project controls and project managers, and the team was migrated to the robust project management information system and reporting platform. 

RESULTS

Leadership gained instant access to KPIs, milestones, and risk indicators. Reporting time dropped by 300%, freeing resources and enabling proactive decision-making across all workstreams.
