Background
A leading global consulting and technology firm, known for its work across defense, homeland security, and commercial sectors, faced a critical inflection point. Its enterprise-wide Program Management Information System—used to manage hundreds of active programs—was nearing the end of vendor support. With a Cloud First mandate and rising cybersecurity expectations, the organization needed more than a system replacement. It envisioned a platform that would ensure continuity of its active programs, reduce cloud app sprawl, align with long-term IT modernization goals, and leverage the innovation of its technical talent.

What Mattered Most
Modernize and consolidate the global program management system by migrating to a secure, cloud-based SaaS platform—reducing application sprawl, improving compliance, and enabling real-time visibility into thousands of active programs across government and commercial clients
What We Noticed
The original SaaS specification recommended nine tenants to support global client operations, each needing full lifecycle support and administration budget. After reviewing and analyzing the business unit consulting approach, the architecture was redesigned—reducing administrative overhead and associated costs by two-thirds.

Challenge
The goal: migrate from an on premise, 3-tier architecture to a SaaS platform – with minimal impact to active programs. Ensuring the new solution aligned with both internal operations and active client obligations. The organization also envisioned incorporating new feature requests received from current end-users and exploiting new capabilities available in the cloud infrastructure.
Solution
Focusing on the schedule, task, and resource management features, RW King partnered with a 15-person agile team to design, configure, develop, and deploy the solution. By also applying a strategic lens to the analysis of consulting scenarios, we scaled down the platform’s footprint, eliminating configuration complexity and administrative overhead.
- Strategic Visioning: Led the development of the Application Strategy and Vision document by synthesizing insights from cross-functional team discussions
- SME Representation: Brought deep program management expertise and Big 5 consulting experience to represent the end-user perspective—ensuring the solution aligned with real-world client delivery needs
